Campus Team Member Earns Community Champion Award
Congratulations to Campus team member Kelly Funk, who was recognized by Pittsford Central School District at the Community Champion Awards Ceremony this month for her dedication as a role model and mentor to the District's Sutherland High School intern, Griffin Nerone. Kelly's contributions to Pittsford CSD — and to Griffin's education in particular — are a testament to the value of Campus Educational Service initiatives and a culture of caring.
Kelly and team worked closely with Pittsford CSD to develop an internship opportunity that enabled Griffin to work with the Campus on-site team on the District's $69.8 million capital project over the summer. During that time, Griffin was able to learn about construction management through the lens of school buildings he was already familiar with, gaining valuable hands-on experience prior to pursuing his future education and a career in the construction industry. His internship culminated in a presentation to the Board of Education that highlighted the value of the internship opportunity.

"Kelly Funk leads the Campus Construction Team in completing large-scale capital improvement projects throughout Pittsford Schools and across the County. Her leadership stands out not only for its effectiveness but also for the way she empowers others. Kelly exemplifies shared leadership and mentorship, consistently recognizing and celebrating the achievements of individual team members. She ensures that her team members are given additional leadership opportunities and actively mentors students within the schools.
One of her student interns is now pursuing construction management post high school and will be well-prepared to take this next step.
The team, under Kelly's guidance, maintains daily communication with school staff to anticipate and prevent any disruptions to instruction, health, or safety. This proactive attention to detail and ongoing connection with staff is a direct reflection of Kelly's approach as a leader.
Kelly’s presence is felt throughout the District. She possesses thorough knowledge of every part of the organization and manages a highly organized operation. Her leadership makes the construction process seamless for those experiencing it, ensuring that the impact on staff and students is minimized and that the projects run smoothly. As educators, we are fortunate to have her as a model to students and to each of us lucky enough to lead and learn alongside her."
